These children are submitted to re-examination when routine
medical inspection is being carried out in the school and if it is
found that employment is detrimental to their health, sanction to
employment out of school hours is withdrawn. At routine inspection
51 children were found who had not obtained the necessary
permission to engage in employment ; 6 of these were found to be
unfit for employment and two were under age.
MISCELLANEOUS.
It is usual to group under this heading the medical examinations
which are made of candidates prior to their appointment on the
teaching staff of the Education Committee and of other candidates
on appointment to various branches of the Council's technical and
clerical staff and of manual workers. All these examinations are
carried out by the school medical staff assisted by the school nurses.
During the year 54 teachers and 10 other candidates were medically
examined.
