MIDWIFERY SERVICE.
At the end of the year eleven midwives were employed by the
Council in connection with the midwifery service established in
accordance with the Midwives Act 1936. A scheme was drawn
up whereby municipal midwives could assist at the Perivale
Maternity Hospital or whereby the staff at the Hospital could
assist the municipal midwives in any emergency. On the outbreak
of hostilities arrangements were made in accordance with this
scheme for members of the staff at the Hospital to assist the
municipal midwives and for a few weeks a number of the Hospital
staff took up temporary residence with the municipal midwives.
