The number of new cases of pulmonary tuberculosis was 139
compared with 157 in the previous year. Cases of non-pulmonary
tuberculosis, 22 in number, were one less than in 1935. The total
deaths from tuberculosis were 88 (pulmonary 69, non-pulmonary 19),
being fifteen less than in the preceding year.
Nine persons were certified as dying from pulmonary tuberculosis
and six from non-pulmonary tuberculosis, although they
had not been notified as suffering from the disease. Where the
deaths were certified by local medical practitioners their attention
was drawn to the necessity of notifying under the Public Health
(Notification of Infectious Disease) Regulations, 1918.
The number of cases on the Tuberculosis Register at the
end of the year was 587 (477 pulmonary and 110 non-pulmonary),
compared with 550 at the end of the previous year. The cases on
the register are revised periodically and visits are paid by the
Sanitary Inspectors to the homes of patients not under the supervision
of the Tuberculosis Officer in order to obtain information
as to their progress.
