The numbers of cases of the various intectious diseases notified
in the past twelve years are indicated below. The total number
of cases notified in the year under review is the lowest in the last
five years, and this is particularly noteworthy when the continuous
increase in the population is considered. Scarlet fever accounted
for more than one half of the total cases, a total of over four hundred
cases being recorded for the fifth year in succession. Following
on two years of abnormal prevalence, the number of cases of
diphtheria was the lowest since 1925.
