Attention should be drawn to the number of children
who were seen by the Surgeon on the occasion of his fortnightly
visits. During the year the average number seen by him was 45,
the highest number at one session being 67, compared with an
average of 35 in the previous year. This is a very large number to
be dealt with at each session and a further increase in the numbers
will necessitate arrangements being made for the Surgeon to attend
more frequently.
(/) Defective Speech.—Consequent on the remarks made in
the annual report for 1934 regarding the number of children with
speech defects who were awaiting vacancies in the special class,
the Education Committee decided to extend the provision of
this treatment. From August, therefore, two classes have been
held each week, one at the Mattock Lane and the other at the
Ravenor Park Centre. Twelve pupils are dealt with in each class
and the children attend twice weekly for lessons which last an
hour.
The results of treatment are shown in the following table,
although it must be borne in mind that included in these figures
are a number of children whose attendance will continue during
1936.
