were received in April and for the Perivale Centre in July, various
difficulties were encountered whereby the commencement of
building operations was delayed. Their construction is now in
progress and it is hoped will be completed in July of this year
when the needs of the rapidly increasing population of these areas
should be adequately met.
Training of Students.—Arrangements approved by the Council
to assist the National Health Society in training student health
visitors were commenced during the year. The students, six in
number, attend two days weekly for periods of 21 weeks, six of
which are spent with the school medical department. Two students
are allocated to each Centre and after suitable instruction it has
been found practicable to allow them to carry out routine home
visiting on their own. By this means the Council obtain some
return for the time devoted by the staff to the instruction of the
students, for the number of visits which they made during the
year was over 3,600, almost equivalent to the work of an additional
health visitor. These visits are included in the summary of visits
done by the staff. Occasional students are also accepted from the
College of Nursing for similar training under similar conditions.
