Public Cleansing.—The whole of the Borough is scavenged
directly by the Council. House refuse is collected mainly in low
loading covered mechanical vehicles, but partly in horse drawn
carts, and transported to the two incinerators at South Ealing
and Hanwell, which deal adequately with the work they are called
upon to perform.
There are no earth closets or privies in the Borough. The
Council undertake the emptying of certain cesspools on payment
of a nominal charge. The sewage is pumped into a tank and
afterwards discharged into the nearest sew;er.
Refuse Dumps.—The two refuse dumps which have in the
past been sources of persistent nuisance have given less trouble
during the year. Both are now being conducted on the controlled
tipping plan.
