Cross infection.—One case of Scarlet Fever became infected
with measles while in the ward, and another with diphtheria.
In view of the limited accommodation in the Hospital for the
isolation of cases of double infection, this low incidence of cross
infection must be credited to the great care and vigilance exercised
by the nursing staff. The provision of the proposed new cubicle
block will do much to relieve the anxiety of those responsible
for the prevention of this ever present danger.
Return cases.—Of the 609 cases discharged during the year
27 gave rise to return cases of scarlet fever, 10 being Ealing patients
and 17 Brentford and Chiswick. This gives a return case rate
of 4.4 per cent. The average duration of stay in hospital of such
patients was 35 days.
