When visiting the homes of the foster-mothers the Health
Visitors give advice regarding the care and nursing of the children
and also request that they should be brought to the Health Centre
to be seen there by the doctor.
In one case it was considered desirable to request the father
of the foster-child to remove the child from the care of the fostermother,
who was deemed unsuitable to continue to have charge of
the child as she had been bound over at the Police Court for stealing.
A case in which a foster-mother had failed to register was
notified by the Coroner's Officer, the child having been accidentally
scalded to death. The case was reported to the Maternity and
Child Welfare Committee with the result that the foster-mother
was warned that if she failed to register in any other case in the
future she would be prosecuted.
