The non-routine inspections consisted of 408 children who
were re-examined on account of some dcfect previously found,
and five children who were submitted by the head-teachers for
examination at school on account of some defect or suspected
defect. At the School Clinic there were examined 1,229 children
who had been referred by the head-teachers, school enquiry officers,
and the school nurses for examination : of this number 550 children
attended for further examination.
The total number of children attending public elementary
schools who were examined or re-examined during the year was
4,006. On the School Registers before the 1st October, the number
of children was 6,396. The average number in attendance was
5,608, so that the average attendance was 87.6 per cent. Taking
the number of children medically examined as 4,006, it means that
62.6 per cent, of the children on the registers were medically
examined during the year.
The attendance of parents at the routine inspections was good.
As many as 73.4 per cent, of all the inspected children were accompanied
by at least one parent.!
