MEDICAL INSPECTION.
Medical Inspection during the year embraced the following
groups:—
(a) Routine inspections as required by the Board of Education
as follows:—
(1) Entrants.—All children admitted to the school during
the year.
(2) Intermediates.—All children who are eight years of age
or who will reach that age before the end of the year.
(3) Leavers.—Children who are 12 or who will be 12 before
the end of the year, together with those over 13 years
of age not previously examined.
(b) Non-routine inspections as follows :—
(1) Children not in the aforementioned routine groups who
are presented by the Head-teachers for examination
for some defect or suspected defect.
(2) Children requiring supervision on account of some
defect found at a previous routine or non-routine
examination.
(3) Children sent to the School Clinic by the Head-teachers,
Attendance Officers or School Nurses for examination
for some defect or suspected defect.
(c) Annual inspection at the schools or at the School Clinic of :—
(1) Physically defective or crippled children. (Some may be
seen more frequently).
(2) Mentally defective children.
In the following tables are indicated the total children medically
inspected in a routine manner. It will be seen that they include
687 entrants, 1,047 intermediates, and 1,043 leavers, making the
total routine inspections 2,777, or 43.3 per cent, of the children
on the school registers.
