Secondary and Continuation Schools.
The provision of suitable educational facilities for
mentally defective children is one of the most important
matters which will have to be considered by the
Education Committee whenever the ban on new expenditure
is raised. At present the mentally defective
-children attending school receive a certain amount
of benefit from their instruction and especially from the
discipline enforced. Doubtless greater benefit would
result from instruction in a special school, but so long
as financial conditions remain as they are the best
must be done for them in the public elementary schools.
SECONDARY AND CONTINUATION SCHOOLS.
The control of these schools is under the Middlesex
County Council, which is represented locally by the
Ealing Higher Education Committee. The School
Medical Officer for Ealing acts as Medical Officer
to the Higher Education Committee and carries out
medical inspection at the Secondary School. In this
way the continuity of supervision and treatment of
the children is preserved from the time they enter the
elementary school until they leave the secondary
school. As 79 per cent. of the children attending
the Secondary School have already been in attendance
at elementary schools in Ealing, a desirable continuity
of medical supervision of the children is accomplished.
The report on the medical inspection of the scholars
in the secondary school is submitted to the Higher
Committee and will be embodied in the report Education
of the County Medical Officer.
NURSERY SCHOOLS.
There are no Nursery Schools in the Borough.
