homes. Where the removal is of an Ealing resident
to the King Edward Hospital or a private nursing home
in Ealing there is no charge, but when the removal is
to a hospital or a nursing home out of Ealing, a charge
of a guinea is made. There can be no doubt that the
ambulance has met a great need, and that it is greatly
appreciated by the inhabitants, for expressions of
appreciation are constantly being received.
During the year the ambulance was requisitioned on
470 occasions, involving the travelling of approximately
3,349 miles.
VITAL STATISTICS.
Population.
The population of the Borough in the middle of 1920,
as estimated by the Registrar-General, was 76,299 for
calculating the birth-rate, and 76,129 for calculating
the death-rate.
Owing to various circumstances it is difficult to give
even an approximately accurate estimate of the population,
but these figures have been calculated by the
Registrar-General in accordance with certain general
principles which apply to all parts of the country.
The Census to be made in 1921 should furnish
accurate information which will enable us to prepare
statistics which can be considered to be nearer the
truth.
