DOMICILIARY OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY
Steady progress was made by patients during the year, although some setbacks
occurred through breakdowns in health during the early part of the year.
Eight new patients were visited, and 157 visits to patients were made during
1963.
Most of the patients are in the older age groups. They are taught some
light work such as embroidery, frame knitting, toy making, painting, and the more
energetic occupations such as basketry, leatherwork, book-binding. With some of
the younger age groups it is also possible to arrange study courses to enable the
patient to take up suitable work when he is well enough to become wage earning
once more.
The Dagenham Tuberculosis Care Association provide assistance by selling
completed work at the Town Show and by arranging sales at the Chest Clinic.
The Occupational Therapist visits only part of one day per week in each of
the areas, which does tend to limit the possibilities of Domiciliary Occupational
Therapy.

Patients are referred from the Chest Clinic by the Chest Physician, who is always available for consultation and to give advice when requested.
