Births
The total of 1,499 live births notified during the year shows a decrease
from the total of 1,527 recorded in 1962. The corrected birth rate per thousand
of the population was 14.17, compared with 18.2 for England and Wales.
The illegitimate birth rate showed little change, being 5.20% of total live
births.
The stillbirth rate was 17.69 per 1,000 total live and stillbirths, compared
with 17.3 for England and Wales. This is appreciably less than the rate
of 22.41 per 1,000 births recorded in the previous year.
