Daily Guardians Scheme
At the end of 1962 the number of registered daily minders and the number of children
being cared for were as follows:—
Number of guardians registered 86
Number of children being cared for 42
Nurseries and Child Minders Regulation Act, 1948
At the end of the year there were 3 child minders caring for 20 children, registered
in accordance with this Act.
Midwifery
A total of 1,522 births were notified, of which 948 (62.3%) occurred in hospital.

Nine County Council Midwives were qualified to administer inhalation analgesia in
accordance with the requirements of the Central Midwives Board. Inhalational analgesia
("gas and air" or Trilene) was administered to 412 of the patients they attended.
Pethidine was given in 206 cases.
A total of 523 cases were delivered in hospital but discharged before the tenth day,
and were attended thereafter by County Council Midwives.
