Another problem which merits more attention is the vexed question of hypertension.
What constitutes hypertension in the elderly and what, if any, treatment is called for ?
Inevitably the majority of the elderly have hypertension as recorded on a sphygmomanometer,
which may or may not be found to be less at the second or third visit as the patient
feels more at home.
I have been very fortunate in having the ready help of Dr. McGown, the consultant
physician at Oldchurch Hospital, with any difficult cases and with many difficult decisions,
and I would like to record my gratitude to him for this.
Twelve other patients who attended during 1958 had still not had their investigations
completed by the end of the year.
