INSPECTION AND SUPERVISION OF FOOD
Clean Food Campaign
The numbers and types of food premises in the Borough are
as follows :—
6 Bakehouses
23 Bakers and Confectioners
61 Butchers
166 Cafes and Canteens
26 Fishmongers
51 Fruiterers and Greengrocers
124 Grocers
21 Licensed Premises
11 Off-licensed Premises
96 Sweets, etc.
All food premises are regularly inspected and during the year
3,291 visits were paid. In addition to numerous requests and
suggestions during these routine visits, 62 informal notices were
served upon owners or occupiers.
159 inspections in connection with itinerant vendors were
carried out; much of this work is done at the week-ends.
The number of premises registered under the Food and Drugs
Act, apart from those in respect of ice cream, is as follows :—
Out of a total of 61 butchers' premises 38 are registered
for the preparation or manufacture of sausages or potted,
pressed, pickled or preserved food. To these 698 visits were
paid. In addition three other food premises are registered
for this purpose.
Out of a total of 26 fish shops 21 are registered for fish
frying. To these 302 visits were paid.
Lectures have been given to members of local organisations.
At the Dagenham Town Show an exhibition was arranged
dealing with Clean Food.
