Clean Food Campaign
The numbers and types of food premises in the Borough are
as follows:—

22 Bakers and Confectioners
60 Butchers
64 Cafes
63 Canteens
29 Fishmongers
50 Fruiterers and Greengrocers
110 Grocers
19 Licensed Premises
9 Off-licensed Premises
90 Sweets, etc.
All food premises are regularly inspected and during the year
3,600 visits were paid. In addition to numerous requests and
suggestions during these routine visits, 32 informal notices were
served upon owners or occupiers.
Legal proceedings under Section 13 were taken against a cafe
proprietor in respect of dirty walls and ceilings. There was a fine
of £10 on each of three summonses.
The number of premises registered under Section 14, apart
from those in respect of ice cream, is as follows:—
Out of a total of 60 butchers' premises 40 are registered for the
preparation or manufacture of sausages or potted, pressed,
pickled or preserved food. To these, 836 visits were paid.
