Unsound Food
The department continues to receive articles of food containing
a variety of foreign substances.
In two cases legal proceedings were instituted. Warning
letters were sent in other cases.
Clean Food Campaign
The film "Another Case of Poisoning" was exhibited (two
showings) at the Civic Centre and all food handlers working in
the Borough invited to attend. This film was also shown at nine
canteens in the Borough and the employees at adjacent factory
canteens were invited.
Lectures have been given to members of some local
organisations.
Legal proceedings were instituted under Food & Drugs Act,
1938, Section 13, against a firm of local bakers in respect of dirty
apparatus and utensils. A fine of £5 was imposed, plus £2 2s. Od.
costs.
Food Poisoning Outbreaks
During the year 26 cases of food poisoning were notified;
these covered two small outbreaks and 21 single cases. In four
cases the causative organisms were identified.
