Of the 122 deaths of non-residents occurring in the
district, 53 took place at the West Ham Sanatorium, 55
at the Joint Isolation Hospital, and one at Hainault
Lodge.
Of the 355 deaths of local residents taking place
outside this area, most occurred in institutions. Of these
161 occurred at Oldchurch Hospital, 34 at Orsett Lodge,
15 at The Retreat, Great Burstead, 11 at New Hall,
Boreham, 10 at King George Hospital, 10 at Ilford
Isolation Hospital, nine at Severalls Mental Hospital,
eight at 142, Rayne Road, Braintree, seven at 48, Wood
Street, Chelmsford, seven at Harold Court Sanatorium,
six at the London Hospital, six at Warley Wood Emergency
Hospital, five at Black Notley Sanatorium, five at
St. Michael's Hospital, E.l, and four at 32a, Spital Road,
Maldon.
638 deaths are equivalent to a death rate of 6.85
compared with 11.6 for England and Wales. For the
years from 1927 to 1941 inclusive, the local rates were
7.0, 7.3, 8.3, 6.6, 7.2, 6.5, 6.5, 6.6, 5.63, 6.43, 6.24,
6.19, 5.96, 8.90, and 8.51.
