Erysipelas.
There were 24 eases notified, a slight reduction on
the number in 19.36.
Cerebro-Spinal Meningitis.
One case of this disease was notified in October in
a child aged six. She was removed to the Isolation
Hospital and recovered.
A second case, a sister of the above, contracted this
disease in January, 19.38, some months after her
sister was removed to hospital.
Acute Anterior Poliomyelitis.
There were three cases of Acute Anterior
Poliomyelitis notified, one in August and two in
September. Two were admitted to the Isolation
Hospital at Rush Green and one was an in-patient at
the time of notification at Princess Elizabeth of York
Hospital. It is with regret that 1 have to report that
one of these eases proved fatal.
There were no cases of Polioencephalitis or
Encephalitis Lethargica.
Pneumonia.
The number of notifications of Pneumonia received
was 121, this being slightly less than those for the
previous year. The number of deaths attributed to
Pneumonia was 54, the same figure as for the previous
year. The mortality was 44 per ccnt. of notified cases.
Smallpox.
Smallpox did not occur in Dagenham during 19.37.
On several occasions, however, the Medical Ollieer of
Health was called by General Practitioners to see cases
suspected of this disease, but in no instance was the
diagnosis confirmed.
