To the Chairman and Members of the Council.
Mr. Chairman, Ladies and Gentlemen,
I have pleasure in submitting my Annual Report.
on the health services of the district for the year 1937.
Perusal of the pages that follow will show that a
satisfactory standard of health is being maintained
and that the vital statistics compare very favourably
with those of similar areas and the country as a whole.
Full reference is made to the scheme instituted
for the care by day foster mothers of children under
school age. This arrangement is being observed with
keen interest and there is evidence to show that it is
succeeding in its object.
The domiciliary midwifery service is now in full
operation. The Council has appointed nine midwives
and arrangements have been made with the Essex
County Nursing Association for the services of seven
and the Salvation Army for two midwives.
Once again I offer my thanks to the members of
the Council and co-opted members of the Committee
for their interest and help in the work of the Public
Health Department,
