INSPECTION AND SUPERVISION OF FOOD.
(a) Milk Supply.
There are 70 retailers of milk in the district.
The following figures relate to the retailers of the
various grades of milk in the district:—
Pasteurised 7
Tuberculin Tested 7
Ungraded 34
Sterilised 19
Carton 11
The number of company distributing centres is
ten.
The number of shops retailing milk in sealed
containers is 47.
At the end of the year the number of wholesalers
registered in this district for the sale of milk was four.
The number of cowkeepers in the district at the
end of 1937 was one, two having discontinued during
the year.
During the year 1937, the following licences were
issued in respect of graded milks:—
Pasteurised 18
Tuberculin Tested 14
The present trend indicates that the smaller
retailers are being gradually absorbed by the companies,
also that a considerable trade of milk in sealed containers
is carried on by grocers shops.
It is noticeable that dirty samples are becoming
exceptional.
