Schick Testing and Immunization.
Sessions were held regularly throughout most of the year at
the Infant Welfare Centres, the Out-Patients' Department, Five
Elms, and at the Wesleyan Chapel, Chadwell Heath. In addition
sessions were held at 10 schools in the district. This proved to be
very useful for, apart from the fact that after the first visit parents
allowed the children to come straight from their classrooms by
themselves, the number of non-attenders diminished considerably.
A greater number of children accepted also, probably owing to the
fact that they received first-hand information from their schoolfellows
regarding the treatment.
The presentation of a toffee to each child upon attendance
was also instituted during the year. Two good effects were
forthcoming as the result of this: (1) more children accepted
the treatment, and (2) there has been much less fuss when children
have been told that they would get no toffee if they persisted in
crying.
During the latter part of the period under review, the
immunizing agent formerly used, toxoid antitoxin mixture, was
replaced by toxoid antitoxin floccules. With the latter agent it
was found that there is no general reaction caused and local
reaction, if any, is negligible in severity. It is also maintained
that a higher percentage of those treated with the new product
give a negative Re-Schick Test.

The following is a summary of the work carried out during the year:—
