Inward transfers 334
Deaths of residents 653
Of the 83 deaths of non-residents occurring in the district,
58 took place at the West Ham Sanatorium and 3 in the Isolation
Hospital.
Of the 334 deaths of local residents taking place outside this
area, most occurred in institutions. Of these, 228 occurred at
Oldchurch Hospital, 18 at King George Hospital, Ilford. 8 at the
London Hospital, 8 at the London Fever Hospital, 5 at Queens
Hospital, Hackney, 5 at St. Mary's Hospital, Plaistow, and 1 at
Queen Mary's Hospital, Stratford.
653 deaths in a population of 90,870 represents a death rate of
7.19 compared with 12.3 for England and Wales. The figure in
1927 was 7.0, and in the three following years 7.3, 8.3 and 6.6.
The low rates for these years are attributable to the abnormal agt
distribution of the population, particularly the paucity of older aged
persons. Any development in the district, with the importation
of a population of young adults will be, compared with the present
population, relatively slight, and the chief influence on the death
rate from now on will be the ageing of the Estate population. This
will result in a steady rise of the local death rate, the height to which
it rises depending, in the same manner as the birth rate, on the
provision made for the retention of young adults in the district.
