The District Inspectors keep observation on the various factory
chimneys within their districta with a view to observing any contravention
of the Clean Air Act in respect of smoke and grit emissions. During
the year 96 plans showing the construction and heights of new chimneys
were examined and in 36 cases additional height was requested and
agreed. 45 notices of the installation of new furnaces were received. 24
of these being oil fired plants.
