Deaths from Non-Respiratory Tuberculosis
During 1971 one death was certified to be due to Non-Respiratory
Tuberculosis
Co-ordination with the Health Department
During the year 10 children were referred by the School Health Service
of the Public Health Department.
Extra Nourishment
Provision of special nourishment in the form of milk was granted to 33
selected cases for varying periods during the year and 28 cases were in
receipt of extra nourishment at the end of the year.
The Chest Clinic and Home Visiting
1,707 new cases were examined during the year. 55 were found to be
definitely tuberculous.
The total number of attendances for examination at the Chest Clinic
was 14,045.
The Clinic doctors paid 203 home visits and the Tuberculosis Visitors
3,620 visits for Clinic purposes. In addition the Tuberculosis Visitors made
110 primary visits for the purposes of the Notification Register. There were
also 1,016 ineffective visits.

The General Practitioner Miniature X-Ray Service continues to function in a satisfactory way and is well used by local practitioners.

The results of this service are summarised below: -

Contact Examination
During 1971, 496 persons were examined for the first time as contacts
of notified cases of Tuberculosis.
Of these contacts, 6 were found to be tuberculous. This is equal to a
Tuberculosis rate per 1,000 contacts of 12 compared with 0.30 per 1,000 of
the general population. In addition one was found to be tuberculous who
had been under observation from previous years.
B.C.G. Vaccination
The use of B.C.G. vaccination for contacts has been continued during
1971 and regular sessions were held at the Clinic for this purpose. 487
