All the children integrate at morning assembly, playtimes and dinner
times. Together they have occasionally led the worship at assembly with
their teachers. They produced a Nativity programme to which all their
parents were invited and attended. A meeting was held in the Autumn Term
of parents with the Local Authority Officers and Staffs of all schools
dealing with partially hearing children.
Senior Partially Hearing Unit, Riddlesdown High School
During the year many changes occurred in the Unit. In June, a 3rd
year boy moved to Bridlington. In July a 2nd year girl moved to Stevenage
and in December a 3rd year girl was given permission to attend Norwood
High School at the request of parents who did not wish her to travel so far
to school during winter weather by train. Mrs. Littlejohn who had been
assistant teacher in the Unit for 2 mornings a week moved to Aberdeen in
July.
There were 3 arrivals. In September a 12 year old girl came to the Unit
from another local High School - she was reported to be handicapped by
executive and receptive aphesia. Towards the end of the year she was fitted
with a post aural hearing aid.
Two very deaf sisters - 12 years old and 13 years old - were placed in
the Unit to await admission in a School for Deaf. Their family had recently
moved into Croydon from London. Their admission inevitably created
problems in a Unit for partially hearing children.
