DISINFECTION
The Borough Disinfecting Station is situated at Factory
Lane. Two steam disinfectors are in use supplied with steam
from a gas fired boiler within the Station.
The following articles were disinfected at the Disinfecting
Station during the year:-
By Steam 10,539 articles
By Formalin Gas 764 ,,
Total 11,303 articles
116 articles were destroyed on request.
Disinfection of bedding and upholstered articles is carried
out for traders, who deliver them to, and collect them from, the
Station. For this service a charge is made. During 1963, 54
articles were disinfected, the receipts amounting to £4.4s.9d.
Disinfection was carried out after infectious or contagious
diseases at the following premises:-
106 rooms at 38 houses, hospital wards, clinics etc.
531 library and other books were disinfected.
On request disinfection was also carried out for conditions
other than notifiable infectious diseases and for which a charge
is made. During the year £15.17s. 6d. was paid for such services.
24 articles for Welfare Department institutions and 881
Medical Aids in Home Nursing were disinfected.
CLEANSING OF VERMINOUS, ETC., PERSONS
The Cleansing Station consisting of a reception room, four
bathrooms and a discharge room, is attached to the Disinfecting
Station, and is used for dealing with verminous, etc., conditions
in adults and children. A woman attendant deals with children
and women. During the year, 5 adults were cleansed of verminous
conditions and 12 adults and 14 children were treated for
scabies.
