Ten patients were awaiting long term hospital vacancies on
31st December, 1963.
Six patients were placed under the guardianship of the Local
Authority, and one was discharged from guardianship, bringing
the total to twenty-three.
Residential Accovwnodation
Financial responsibility was accepted by the Corporation in
respect of the maintenance of one severely subnormal girl in a
Hone outside Croydon.
Thirteen severely subnormal patients, (six males, seven
females) are placed in foster homes supervised by the Guardianship
Society.
Training
Junior Training Centre
The special care group at this centre is now firmly established
and is proving very useful in catering for some of the
more severely handicapped children.

Adult Training Centre
(i) Bensham Training Centre
This centre as well as providing suitable training and
work for the more severely handicapped trainees, also provides
an initial stage of training for those who are less handicapped.
Assessment, stabilisation and introduction to work habits and
wrking conditions are important functions of this centre.
