ENURESIS CLINIC
During the year a total of 181 children attended the enuresis
clinics at Lodge Road and New Addington, as usual the number of
boys attending was far in excess of the number of girls. An
interesting feature was that 88, nearly half, showed some family
history of nocturnal enuresis. This tends to confirm the theory
that many of these children are naturally late in developing
control of their bladder, and the condition becomes chronic
because this cannot be accepted by the parents, who try all
forms of treatment from bribery to beating.
Just over a third had had previous treatment from other
doctors, mainly amphetamine tablets, although several had tried
pituitrin snuff.
The buzzers were used continuously where the parents were
prepared to co-operate, but owing to slight mechanical difficulties
there was a series of breakdowns. This has now been
rectified and they are working well again.
