Ages at Death from Respiratory Tuberculosis

All but 3 cases were notified during life.
Where patients have not been notified during their lifetime
a visit is paid by the Tuberculosis Health Visitor to the home
of the deceased, to obtain particulars of the contacts and to
endeavour to persuade them to attend the Clinic for examination.
In 1955 the death-rate from all forms of Tuberculosis was
0.140 per 1,000 population.
The rate from Respiratory Tuberculosis was 0.132 and the rate
for Non-Respiratory Tuberculosis 0.008. Similar figures for 1954
were 0.112 and 0. 016.
In 1955 the total number of deaths showed a slight increase
when compared with 1954. 80% of the deaths occurred in the age
groups 45 years and over. There was one death in a child of
school age.
Deaths from Non-Respiratory Tuberculosis
During 1955 2 deaths were certified to be due to Non-Respiratory
Tuberculosis, compared with 4 in 1954, 6 in 1953, 2 in
1952 and 13 in 1951.
1 of the patients died in a general hospital and 1 at home.
Both of them were notified during life.
