ST. LUKE'S PARTIALLY SIGHTED SCHOOL
I am indebted to Miss M.C. Lewin, the Head Mistress, for the
allowing observations:-
During 1955 the school has continued to make steady progress
in spite of the loss felt when Mrs. Davies retired in July.
Mrs. Davies was in charge of St. Luke's for seven years and
under her care the school has done excellent work. She had the
confidence of the parents and the affection and respect of the
children and she has been greatly missed by us all.
However we are glad to welcome Miss J. Rundle to the staff.
Although she has only been here a short time she has done splendid
work with the younger children.
During the year the school has maintained its customary
activities. The boys continue to attend Norbury Manor School for
woodwork lessons and have made good progress. One of the boys
gained a Certificate of Merit in the National Savings Exhibition
for a cabinet which he made in the woodwork class.
The girls continued to take Cookery under Miss Newton and at
Christmas had a fine show of Christmas cakes.
We have also maintained our good swimming record. Two girls
have obtained certificates for 4 40 yards, one boy has a certificate
for 220 yards and several of the children have 25 and 50
yards certificates.
Last September we started a typewriting course for the oldef
boys and girls and they are making good progress.
Four children left school during the year having reached the
school-leaving age. All have found employment except one who _has
been accepted as a full-time student at the Guildhall School of
Music and Drama.
The number on roll at the school on 3 1st December last was
26.
