ST. CHRISTOPHER'S SPECIAL EDUCATIONALLY SUB-NORMAL
SCHOOL
I am indebted to Mr. Ramsden, the Head Master, for the
following observations:-
A very satisfactory year's work has been accomplished despite
frequent Staff changes. We have welcomed Messrs. Thomas, Doe and
Batchelo r and Misses Wilds, McKay and Worrall to the Staff.
During the year Mr. Powell, Senior Assistant, has been on
leave taking a Diploma Course of the London University for Educationally
Sub-Normal work. Mr. Doe has transferred to St. Giles'
and Mrs. Stiles has been appointed Assistant Education Officer
in Nigeria.
The great event of the year was a 3-day Inspection of the
School by Her Majesty's Inspectors Messrs. Parnham, Redfern and
Miss Sykes, and a written report was submitted to the Education
Committee. The Inspectors expressed complete satisfaction of the
work being done and were impressed by the good tone and spirit
due to the devotion of the Staff and to their arduous work.
Our school outing to Littlehampton took place in the now,
expected excellent weather, and a very enjoyable time was experienced
by 139 children and Staff with no untoward incident to
mar the day. We hope this year to go to the Isle of Wight for a
week with several of the children.
Netball and cricket were played in competition with other
schools of Croydon.
The Christmas entertainment took place in the lower hall
from 9.30 a.m. to 3.30 p.m. around the tree given by Mr. Stenning
of Redhill, which was later sent to Mayday Hospital. A long
account and photograph was given in the Croydon Times.
So another year's work, difficult, trying, but always full
of the satisfaction that something further has been achieved to
bring these handicapped children to lead a full life amongst
their fellows, has been accomplished.
