New Clinics
One floor of premises belonging to the Corporation at 47 St.
James' Road, was adapted to form a Speech Therapy Clinic. A
single waiting room serves three quite independent consultation
and treatment rooms in which half-glass screens separate play
therapy sections from the consultation portions. This arrangement
allows three Therapists to work at the same time, and to have
their patients under their direct observation. This scheme was
from a design by the Speech Therapists themselves and has proved
most successful in actual practice. On the ground floor of this
building, two rooms have been turned into one and equipped for
Remedial Exercises. This has allowed the giving up of a Hall previously
hired for this purpose and provides a most conveniently
situated permanent clinic, which serves the whole of the borough.
The Principal School Dental Officer refers to a new Dental
Clinic provided by the Health Committee, but used up to 80% of
capacity for school dental services. While it was essential to
provide accommodation for ordinary dental treatment, opportunity
was taken to improve the facilities available for patients,
especially to encourage the attendance of children from an early
age and the promotion of dental health.
I would take this opportunity to thank the Members of the
Education Committee for their continued encouragement and support,
despite the difficulties imposed upon them by financial limitations.
I thank also the Members of the Education Department for
their unfailing co-operation and the School Health Staff for the
manner in which they have carried out routine and special duties.
