MEAT INSPECTION
During the year the Ministry of Pood ceased to control the
slaughter of livestock for human consumption. Parliament decreed
that Local Authorities should satisfy themselves that sufficient
slaughtering facilities were made available for the use of
traders to maintain a supply of fresh meat. The Corporation after
consultation with the trade leased the Public Abattoirs to Contractors
whom they, and the trade, considered were best able to
supply the needs of the Borough in the way of freshly killed meat.
During the year there has been an increase in the number of animals
slaughtered of 40% over the 1953 figure. A 100% inspection
has been maintained by the Corporation Meat Inspectors of the
following: -
