At the primary inspections vermin were found in 25 and nits
alone in 501 children. On these inspections 0.9 per cent, of the
children showed evidence of infestation as against 1.8 in 1953.

tuberculosis incidence rate per 100,000 was 23.3, and the nonpulmonary
incidence rate 10.2. There were no deaths from tuberculosis.
