Cerebro-Spinal Meningitis.
Fifteen cases were admitted, but in 5 the diagnosis was not
confirmed, and in 3 others the diagnosis was
One was a case of meningism,
One was a case of acute poliomyelitis,
One was a case of enteritis.
The combined treatment by lumbar puncture, meningococcus
anti-toxin and sulphapyridine in doses of 2 grns. repeated in four
hours' time and then 1 grn. given four hourly, continued for a
week proved successful, as it had done previously.
Two deaths occurred amongst the cerebro-sginal fever cases.
Rubella.
Eight cases were admitted, a decrease of 27 on 1944. One
case admitted as rubella was really a case of scarlet fever.
Dysentery.
There were 44 cases admitted as dysentery, but in one the
diagnosis was not confirmed. This showed an increase of 31
cases on 1944. Three deaths occurred amongst them.
The type of dysentery was due to Sonne bacillus.
Acute Gastro-Enteritis.
Twenty-four cases of gastro-enteritis were admitted, an
increase of 20 cases on 1944.
There were four deaths amongst them.
Croup.
There were three cases admitted, two of them being cases of
laryngeal diphtheria and one of simple croup.
Mumps.
Eleven cases were admitted, but in two the diagnosis was not
confirmed. One was a case of simple adenitis.
