Comments on the Incidence and Prevalence of Infectious Disease.
Scarlet Fever cases showed an increase on 1944.
The incidence rate of Diphtheria was 0.14, compared with
0.11 in 1944.
No cases of Small Pox occurred during the year.
There were 57 cases of Puerperal Pyrexia; 26 occurred in the
age-group 15—24 years and 31 in the age-group 25—44 years. A
majority of the cases occurred in women having their first confinement.
BOROUGH HOSPITAL.
Table A gives a summary of all cases treated at the Hospital
during 1945.
798 patients were admitted and discharged which, together
with patients in at the commencement of 1945 (56), gives a total
of 854 dealt with. Twenty-one died, giving a case mortality for
the hospital of 2.5 per cent, as against 1.3 per cent, in 1944.
Penge Urban District Council have an arrangement with the
Corporation to send their cases to the Hospital. During the year
38 cases were admitted and these are included in the tables.
One operation for tonsils and adenoids was performed.
The work of repair of the wards damaged by the flying bomb
which fell in August, 1944, has been completed.
During the year two probationers passed the Preliminary
State Examination and one nurse passed the Final State
Examination.
