At the primary inspections vermin were found in 211 and
nils alone in 1,878 children. On these inspections, 4.4 per cent.
of the children showed evidence of infestation as against 3.8 in
1944.

Taking the total Local Authority school population as 23,984,
the pulmonary tuberculosis incidence rate was 37.5 per 100,000.
There were no deaths from pulmonary tuberculosis. For nonpulmonary
tuberculosis the mortality rate was 10.7 and the incidence
rate 83.4.
CAUSES OF DEATH IN CHILDREN OF SCHOOL AGE.
School population 31,000.
Number of deaths 22, which is equal to a death-rate of 0.7
per 1,000.
