As in 1939, the Civil Defence Casualty Services have not been
included in my report as, although the Medical Officer of Health is
responsible for their organisation and administration, they can hardly be
described as Public Health Services, The onset of air-raids' showed
however that the Casualty Services were ready and efficient, and the members
thereof responded, whole' heartedly and without thought of self, to the calls
for assistance which occurred almost nightly from September until the end
of the year.
In conclusion I express my thanks to the Chairman end Members of
the Public Health, Education and Mental Deficiency Committees for their help
and encouragement during a somewhat hazardous year. To my staff, professional
and lay, for their continued loyalty and adherence to duty I also wish to
convey my sincere thanks additionally, I desire to bring this to the
notice of the Members of the Committees concerned.
I am,
Yours faithfully,
OSCAR M.HOILEN.
Medical Officer of Health.
