The time devoted to orthodontia is restricted to one session per
week, which is shared by two dental surgeons. With so little time
for this work it is necessary to have these sessions as free as possible
for new cases, or cases under treatment which require new impressions
for further appliances. This is achieved by giving verbal
appointments for those cases requiring minor adjustments of
appliances after the work of the routine sessions is completed.
Some of the cases treated have been those of mouth-breathing,
and in most instances this has been of dental origin. In certain
cases these patients have been supplied with oral screens.and special
lip exercisers to improve the muscle tone of the lips, and to
encourage normal breathing. Very often this treatment runs concomitantly
with the wearing of special appliances.
The Education Committee has approved that orthodontic treatment
may be undertaken for children of indigent parents without
charge, the cost of 15s. for each child being borne by the Committee.
