show that of patients who came under treatment for Pulmonary
Tuberculosis before 1927, 430 adults and 107 children have been
discharged as recovered. Of these all but 20 were early cases. Of
the 1927 cases, 27 adults and 2 children of the 1928 cases, 29 adults
and 2 children ; of the 1929 cases 10 adults and 3 children ; of the
1930 cases 20 adults and 3 children ; and of the 1931 cases 14 adults
and 3 children, have recovered.
Of patients who first attended in 1937, 11 have been lost sight
of or otherwise removed from the Clinic Register. Of t he 1936 cases
21 were lost sight of.
Of patients who attended prior to 1927, 397 adults and 16
children are known to have died ; since 1927, 981 adults and 29
children are known to have died. Of patients attending for the
first time in 1937, 23 adults and 2 children have died.
It will be seen that in the years 1927 to 1937 (inclusive) there
have been 29 deaths in children, and 21 of these were found to
have a positive sputum. It will also be seen that during this period
there is no record of recovery or of arrest of the disease in a single
child with a positive sputum. It is fortunate that such cases are
very rare.
In sufferers from Non-Pulmonary Tuberculosis who first attended
prior to 1927, 57 adults and 632 children have been discharged
as recovered, and of those first attending in 1927 and following
years, 46 adults and 101 children. 21 adults and 16 children died
in the pre-1927 class; 33 adults and 13 children died in the 1927
and following years group.
Co-ordination with Medical Practitioners, and Other Branches of
the Health Department.
During the year 224 cases of suspected Tuberculosis were
referred by private medical practitioners ; 64 were diagnosed as
suffering from Tuberculosis and were subsequently notified. In
addition, 18 children were referred by the School Medical Service,
and 26 cases from the Maternity and Child Welfare section of the
Public Health Department. 87% of all notified cases were
examined at the Clinic or were seen at the request of the medical
attendant at the patient's home, as compared with 78.3% in 1936,
83.9% in 1935, 84.2% in 1934, and 79.3% in 1933.
