The Shops Act, 1934, contains provisions for dealing with
the health and comfort of persons employed and also regarding
ventilation, temperature, sanitary conveniences, washing facilities
and the facilities for taking meals in shops. This is an advance
on the previous legislation, and has naturally entailed a considerable
amount of extra work on the staff. 4,521 inspections were
made, and a number of infringements were found, as set out on
Page 200.
In 6 instances proceedings were instituted in connection with
'"'sale of goods after the hours laid down, and fines and costs
, amounting to £3 2s. 6d. were incurred.
