COUNTY BOROUGH OF CROYDON
ANNUAL REPORT
of the
MEDICAL OFFICER OF HEALTH
and
SCHOOL MEDICAL OFFICER
For the Year 1933.
To the Chairman and Members of the Public Health Committee.
Ladies and Gentlemen,
I have the honour to present herewith my Sixth Annual
Report, being the thirty-fourth of the series, on the health of
Croydon. The general arrangement follows that of the last
report.
The contents have been compiled in compliance with Circular
1346 of the Ministry of Health, dated 2nd October, 1933, and the
report is an ordinary, not a survey report.
VITAL STATISTICS.
The Birtih Rate showed a further decrease and reached the
lowest figure yet recorded, whilst the Death Rate showed a slight
rise over 1932. It remained, however, considerably below that
for the whole of England and Wales. The steadily diminishing
birth-rate is leading to a gradual rise in the average age of the
population, and in consequence any further reduction in the
death-rate is unlikely. A small rise in the death-rate is a natural
corollary and has no practical bearing on the state of health of the
town.
