(f) 14 at St. Nicholas' Hospital for Children, Birchington;
(g) 5 at St. Nicholas' and St. Martin's Hospital, Pyrford;
(h) 6 at other institutions.
None of these beds were definitely retained for Croydon
patients. Of these 46 beds for non-pulmonary tuberculosis, on an
average 33 were occupied by cases of surgical tuberculosis (of
spine, joints, or bone), and 13 by cases of glandular or other nonpulmonarv
tuberculosis.
Number of Patients under Treatment.
During 1926, 219 patients were admitted to sanatoria for pulmonary
tuberculosis. Of these, 121 were men—of whom 25 were
invalided ex-Service men —94 were women, and 4 were children.
A total of 397 Croydon patients (including those in institutions
at the beginning of the year) received institutional treatment
for various forms of tuberculosis under the Council's arrangements,
in accordance with the following table:—

6.—CROYDON BOROUGH SANATORIUM, CHEAM.
The Joint Smallpox Hospital buildings at Cheam have continued
to use throughout 1926 as a sanatorium for tuberculous
patients from Croydon, Surrey and Kent, the Borough Council
being responsible for the administration. The extensions of the
administration work and other alterations needed to increase the
accommodation from 50 to 85 beds were completed, and the additional
beds fitted in April, 1926. The Sanatorium now contains 55
beds for men, 30 for women; 40 of these beds being allocated to
Croydon C.B. (— for men and-for women), 40 to the Surrey
C.C. and 5 to Kent C.C.
