(*i.e., blind and deaf in regard to capacity for education in an ordinary school).
Table III. in the Appendix indicates the extent to which suitable
educational provision has been made for these children.
Mentally Defective Children.
It will be seen from Table III. at the end of the report that
there are 114 mentally defective children of school age in the
Borough known to the School Medical Department as capable of
some degree of education in a special school.
Of these, 76 were on the roll of the Grangewood Special
School at the end of the year.
Clinic for Mentally Defective Children.
95 children were examined at the Clinic held at the Town
Hall, involving 106 examinations, with the following results:—

2.—Found to be dull and backward 48
(retarded 1—2 years, 24; retarded 2—3 years, 20;
over 3 years, 4.)
3.—Found to be physically defective 6
