The following particulars are based on the average of the data
for the two years 1923 and 1924 for the roads subjected to house-tohouse
inspection and for the rest of the borough. The population
for the "selected roads" is that ascertained during the inspection,
and is assumed to hold good for the two years in question; that
for the various age groups for the rest of the borough is calculated
from the two Censuses of 1911 and 1921, and is subject to certain
unavoidable errors. To minimise errors through differences in the
age distribution of the two groups, the death rates set out below are
calculated per 1,000 population of the age-groups under consideration.
