SPINAL REMEDIAL CLASS.
This class has been held in one of the rooms of the Treatment
Centres from April 12th, 1915, and the figures given below refer to a
period from that date to December 31st, 1915.
Total number of new cases 49
Total number of attendances 1052
Of the 49 children treated:—
1. Five have left school.
2. One has left the district.
3. Twelve have been discharged as needing no further
treatment.
4. Eight have been discharged with instructions to attend
the class occasionally.
5. One has been excluded for a time.
6. One has been discharged because of irregular attendance.
7. Twenty-one are still attending the class
During the past year a considerable addition has been made to
the apparatus provided for the special exercises required for the
remedial treatment of early cases of spinal curvature. The time also
which Miss Appleton has been able to devote to the class has been
increased The results have been most gratifying, and the exercises
can now be carried out much more satisfactorily and efficiently and
the number ol children who can be treated made very considerably
greater.
The class is regularly visited by one of the medical members of
the staff and advice given as to the treatment and to the discharge or
retention of cases.
It is impossible to over-estimate the value of the work which is
being carried out at this class, as the prevention of spinal deformity is
clearly a thing which entirely alters the capacities and outlook upon
life of the individuals so treated.
